Independence Pass, Colorado

Between Leadville and Aspen Colorado, along highway 82, you cross over what is known as Independence Pass.

It's places like this where you really get a sense of how small we little human beings are.  Never mind the narrow roads, complete with switch-backs hugging the edge of huge mountains.  It's just everything about it - the crisp mountain air, the bright blue sky, jagged rock and snow.

The last post I put up on Colorado was in Leadville and I talked about the ultramarathon races that take place over there.  These next pictures make me really actually consider doing an event like this.  This video is another one that makes me consider it...

Wide open spaces

I totally understand what John Denver was singing about!

Big sky, big mountain

Just look at the path on the upper-right in this next picture.  I just want to jump in the picture and walk along that ridge for hours:

Walk this way

Rocky mountain high indeed.  Thanks John Denver - you hit the nail on the head!
