Wilmington Flower Market 2012

We have lived in this area for 16+ years now, and we keep discovering new things.  I'm shocked that we never knew about this one - the Wilmington Flower Market.  It's an annual carnival in Rockford Park, complete with plenty of rides for the kids and flowers galore.

The weather was absolutely 100% perfect.  Blue sky, low humidity, probably 65-70 degrees, slight breeze...  If I could bottle up this weather and use it all year long I would.  Starting off the evening I parked a few blocks away, and in this area of Wilmington there are some really neat row houses, like this one:

Someday, after the kids head off to college, the wife and I might downsize and live in a city, and it would be cool to be in something like this.

Once you get into Rockford park, the fun begins!  The carnival atmosphere was in full swing:

That's Rockford Tower back there, almost blending in with the surroundings since everything else is full of color.

And for parents out there, we all know what carnivals like this mean: tickets for the rides.

Tickets please!

I'm always amazed at how these traveling carnivals can haul around such huge rides, like this:

And my middle child was finally big enough to ride some of these rides now, so it was a big day for him.  He's somewhere in the blur of this next picture:

While he rode that big-boy ride, his mom stood by proudly to watch:

Did I mention what a beautiful day it was?  Really, I can't believe how perfect it is out there...

Hello up there!

The light from the setting sun really made things look crisp and colorful:

And the tower looming above was calling our name - since they had the doors open!  I've never seen the doors open, and wanted to climb up and see what it was like.  The old tower sure does deliver:

After the tower, we treated our middle-son and his friend to cotton candy while my wife did one of her favorite activities: kissing the baby!

Happy Mother's day!

And on our way out, we had to take a quick stroll through the little tent areas with the booths.  You never know what you'll find there:

Well, it was a very nice way to spend a couple of hours after work on a Friday for sure.  Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there, especially my own mom, my sister, and my awesome wife, mother of our 3 little goof-balls.  You're all the best!
